This card game is played in all the coffee houses around Cyprus. Called Pilotta by the Greeks, Bela or Clobyosh by the Jews and Klaverjas by the Dutch.

The game may be played by 2, 3 and 4 players . The 4 handed version being the most popular.
The aim of the game is to get as many tricks as possible by using trump cards.
Cards in the trump suit both rank and score differently from those in other suits.
Cards from the 7 up are only used for the deal.

The deal and bid for four players. The players form two teams with partners sitting opposite one another. The direction of play is anti clock- wise. The cards are cut to establish dealer with the highest card taking the deal.
Tthe person on the dealers left cuts the pack and then the cards are dealt. The dealer gives a set of three cards to each player, a futher set of two cards is then dealt with the next card being turned face up.

This card should be the trump suit in the first round, but players have a choice weather to take this or pass. Bidding starts with the player on the dealers immediate right. If all the players pass a second round of bidding is started again by the person on the dealers right.The trump suit may now be called from the players hand. If all pass the second bidding a new hand must be dealt with the dealind passed to the player on the right. If a player calls a trump suit he is then given the turned up card plus two cards. All other players are given three cards. These cards are dealt in rotation begining with the player on the dealers right and ending with the dealer.

Should a player hold any of the following cards in his hand the following extra points are given:
4 jacks 200 points
4 nines 150 points
4 As, 10s, Ks and Qs 100 points.
Sequences from 3 to 5 cards of the same suit must be declared when the fist card is played and score as follows:
3 cards 20 points
4 cards 50 points
5 cards 100 points
With sequences longer than 5 cards earning the same as for 5 cards.
Should both teams declare sequences of the same amount of cards the points go to the team holding the highest ranking cards.Should both teams be holding the same ranking cards no points are given.

A player holding the King and Queen of the trump suit must declare the card when first played saying pilotta on the first play and repilotta on the second play. This play earns 20 extra points.

The player to the right of the dealer starts the play. Subsequent players must now follow suit if they can. If the card led is a trump card all players must not only follow suit but also play a higher card than the one lead. If the player does not have a card of the trump suit he may discard any card in his hand.
If a player is third or fourth in the play and is unable to play a non trump suit and the opponent just before him has trumped he must over trump if he can. If he as trumps but is unable to over trump he must still play a trump.

If a player is fourth to play and his partner has trumped, the opponent before him has either under tromped (played a lower card) or discarded and he is unable to follow suit he may discard even if he is holding trumps. He may also choose to over trump if he holds a higher trump and is unable to follow suit. If none of the trumps that he holds is high enough to win the trick and he is unable tp follow suit he may choose to under trump. But if he is unable to follow suit and he holds a trump high enough to win the trick he is not allowed to under trump.

The player who has taken the trick is now the player to lead the next round. Once all the tricks have been taken the team that took the last trick are awarded an extra 10 points. The tricks are now counted If the team who took on the trump suit wins at least as many points as their opponents the taking team has made contract and bith teams add their scores to their column. If the takers points are less, the opponents take their score plus any declaration points they may have declared.

Should one team not score any tricks this is known as Copot and the opposing team earns an extra 100 points. The declaration Pilotta and Repilotta still go to the team that declared it.
The first team to reach 1000 points are declared the winners.
