Livadhia is a tiny village in the Pitsilia region,
perched under the Madari mountain peak at about 1000 metres above
sea level. (Madari is the highest mountain top after Olympus).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The village is called Livadhia of Pltsilia, to
be distinguished from the other two villages in Cyprus also called
Livadhia. It stands on rugged mountainous terrain, by the Adelfi
Forest, surrounded by steep slopes covered in pines and other wild
vegetation.
In the centre of the village is a huge reservoir of potable water
- one of the few of its kind still in existence.
The village church, dedicated to St. Paraskevi,
gazes down into a ravine. Built in 1880 it comes under the protection
of the Department Of Antiquities ,
The roads leading to Livadhia are in relatively
good condition. From Nicosia the village can be reached either via
the Peristerona ,Orounta and Kato Moni road or by the Anthoupolis-Agrokipia
Mitsero road. The drive from Karvounas to
Livadhia passes through the villages of Chandria. and Polystypos.
Cultivate land in and around Livadhia is limited
but, thanks to the hard Work of Livadhia's inhabitants there are
some vines, as well as almond trees, apple and hazelnut trees. Because
of its remote mountain location traversed by the Peristerona and
Elia rivers, the village has seen a gradual movement of its inhabitants
to the towns, and over the years there has been a sharp decline
in the population. However the former inhabitants of Livadhia are
very fond of- their village and support in any way they can
